Hello and thank you for visiting the our web log! We’ve decided to share the blog here at Adelante Foundation. Our former volunteer will continue to contribute occasionally, as will I as the new International Development Coordinator. I’ll just tell you a little bit about myself.
I’ve been living in La Ceiba for over eight years, since early 2000. My first visit to Honduras was in December of 1998, two months after Hurricane Mitch, or simply “El Mitch” as people say here, had passed through. It’s ironic that I ended up here – that first visit was so disagreeable that I declared that I would not, under any circumstances, ever consider living here (please see “Hurricane Mitch” posting for a description of that experience). Of course at that time I had no way of knowing how I would grow to love the warm tropical climate, crystal blue Caribbean waters, lush tropical jungle and friendly Honduran people.
Until recently, I worked as a high school sciences teacher at a local American school. It was a rich and rewarding experience, but after eight years I was ready for a career change. I was thrilled when the position opened up at Adelante, and I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to join the team here. I look forward to sharing my experiences and impressions with you on the web log.
